Cross posting from my tumblr. I am posting this here because this very piece was recently stolen and is still up along with other stolen art even though I have reported it and requested it be taken down.
I'm gonna talk about this little piece right here
I made this two years ago on DeviantArt. I was just getting started in pixel art. I was having a blast. It was the most fun I had ever had with art!
I was doing icon requests at the time. I even made a few friends. This icon specifically was a big one for me. Before this I had only done pixel animation that moved up and down a couple of pixels. Sometimes I feel like I've hit like an "art level-up". This icon was definitely one of those times. I remember working so hard on it. I remember asking my brother for advice with the animation. I remember it being pretty neat to talk about that kind of thing together. And when I was finished, I remember being kind of amazed. I made that. I made that. I was proud. Hell, I still am proud! Four legged walk cycles are hard! Sure this isn't anything complex but still! I was proud.
But when it's posted without a source all of that is gone. The artist and all that the art means to the artist is gone. Art means so much to the artist. This is one of the main reasons why I am so adamant about sourcing art.
You have changed me from an artist, a person, into some faceless machine to make art for your "cute pixel blogs"
"I didn't make any of this unless posted otherwise" does not make it okay. It makes you lazy and uncaring. You find this art somewhere. Maybe it's been reposted without a source where you found it, maybe not. And you liked it! You liked it enough to post it on your "cute pixel blog". But you don't care or respect the artists enough to worry about all the work and time and emotion that goes into something.
All you want is notes.
I am angry. I am angry and disappointed. I don't want to believe the internet is a place where I have to stamp my URL or name all over my art to keep it from being stolen. I don't want to believe that this is a place where "it's the internet, of course people are gonna steal it/repost it" and "I'm not some advertisement for the artist who made this!!" are valid excuses for this kind of behavior.
I copied the url for this stolen image and stuck it into google image search and found the source, me, in under 15 seconds. It took 15 seconds to find the url. Going at that speed it would take 1 minute for 4 pieces of art. That would be 7 and a half minutes for all the stolen art in a "masterpost" of "cute pixels".
I do not accept your laziness as an excuse for erasing artists and what their art means to them.
